Awaking Wonder Unit: George Washington Carver

George Washington Carver’s story is an inspiration to many. Born a slave on a farm in Missouri, after the death of his parents Carver eventually was taken in by a childless couple who shared their home, lives, and faith with him. He became the first African American to receive a Bachelor of Science degree, and later became a college professor after earning his Master’s. Carver believed God had a purpose for everything He had made, so he spent much of his life searching out something unusual: the purposes of peanuts! He found more than three hundred possible uses for this plant which grew so plentifully in the south. Enjoy digging in to the life and science of George Washington Carver and the peanut.
