In Our Home: Planting Seeds of Inspiration

Planting seeds of inspiration in our children is a continual process. We look for opportunities to affirm areas of giftedness and talent in their lives that God is using or could use for his glory. We use storytelling to create mental pictures in our children’s minds of them as Christian leaders as youths and adults. They especially enjoy stories that have them acting heroically or sacrificing for others. Because there are very few Christian heroes, real or imaginary, for them to emulate today, we diligently search out books and videos that provide good Christian role models. Whenever possible, we try to find stories about people that match one of their current interests (for example music, sports, nature or others). Inspirational fiction provides many good examples of noble Christian character to imitate. We want to secure in their minds that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things, and that he can use them, too.
