Awaking Wonder Unit: Freckles
Gene Stratton Porter was an American author who spent most of her life in Indiana exploring nature, and all the life lessons it had to offer. She eventually settled on the edge of an incredible landscape: a swampy area called by the romantic name of The Limberlost. Considered “ahead of her time” by many, Gene believed a connection to nature was key to living a good life, and her painstaking efforts to capture accurate photographs, sketches, and paintings of her surroundings led to detailed novels rooted in the landscape as well as widely-acclaimed naturalist studies. She eventually wrote twenty books, and this month we’ve chosen Freckles as our focus, taking cues from its pages for possible studies in several other areas.
